When A + S first met, they were working in downtown Chicago. They quickly fell in love from the very first date that ended up lasting well into the night. After a few years, they started a new adventure together and moved to Dallas. When A started thinking about how to propose to the love of his life, he did a quick Google search on most beautiful places to propose and stumbled upon Big Sur! After seeing photos of the incredible coastline, he knew that it was the perfect place to pop the question. Together we plotted to arrange a photoshoot (which wasn't unusual for them) as a surprise gift for their trip to California. She didn't suspect a thing when he suddenly got down on one knee. We ended the day with sunset on the beach - it couldn't have been more romantic. Check out the rest of A + S's proposal below!

You may have heard of engagement or pre-wedding sessions, but L + E chose to do a post-wedding session instead! These two eloped at San Francisco City Hall with a simple ceremony, and then drove down to Big Sur a week later as newlyweds to capture their wedding photos. It was one of the warmest days in Big Sur, but they trekked up the stairs all the same and made each other laugh all along the way. We ended their session at the beach, capturing the last sunlight over the horizon before making our way home. These photos then became their announcement to their family and friends that these two high school sweethearts had finally got married! Check out the rest of their Big Sur wedding portraits below!
C + H met in school in college, but their love story didn't start until the fateful year of COVID. C had stayed in America, but H had moved back to Singapore. They started chatting, and what began as a few conversations turned into a cross country love story. A few trips later, she finally made the move back to America to be with C. With two weddings planned - one in each country - they decided to capture their pre-wedding photos here in California where they now live. When I heard G + K's story, I felt like we had shared parallel lives! These two grew up just living down the block from one another and started dating right after graduating high school (just like my husband and I!) They shared many memories exploring the redwoods on the coast of Santa Cruz, and so when they had a family wedding in the area, G reached out to me to plan a surprise proposal for his girlfriend of 7 years. It was the weekend of the Big Sur Marathon, so we planned for a sunset proposal after all the runners had gone. It couldn't have been more perfect - she was certainly surprised, and happily said yes! B + J had been talking about seeing the famous Bixby Bridge for a long time, but they weren't able to on their last trip to Monterey. So when he started thinking about where to propose, he figured it was the perfect place to pop the question! They drove down from the Bay Area for a weekend getaway in Big Sur, and he surprised her at sunset with a proposal. Check out the rest of their Bixby Bridge proposal below!
It’s engagement season! Though I had closed my calendar for engagement sessions for most of the year due to being so booked for elopements and weddings, it’s finally starting to slow down as we get into the wintertime. Loved getting to show W + H (who had travelled all the way from Singapore) all of my favorite redwoods and coast spots in Big Sur!
Did you know that sunsets look different at different times of year? When you shoot at the same locations year round, you learn to notice how important the direction of the sun is. A winter sunset will look different from a summer sunset on the coast because the angle of the sun affects which views get soaked in the golden light. When shooting on the cliffside, you're also limited by where you can stand. But the very nuances of Big Sur are exactly what make it so magical in the first place. S + R had always loved driving down Highway 1 - they would often spend weekends stopping at turnouts to explore and adventure on the California coast. So when it came time to propose, R knew that he wanted to do in Big Sur. With the calla lilies just at the end of their blooming season, they came just at the right time for a sunny (albeit a bit windy) day on the coast. A knew that his girlfriend would want to be dressed up for the proposal, so he came up with a brilliant plan to make sure that she wouldn't suspect a thing. He told her that they were going to a yacht party, so they dressed accordingly and made their way down to Big Sur to stop and see the views. When they arrived at the hilltop, he surprised her with the proposal and she could not believe it. My favorite part of the story was when he introduced me as the photographer - she said "Lynn, you mean Lynn Lewis?" I was confused at how she knew who I was - turns out she had been pinning my photos on Pinterest, but he didn't even know! He had found me completely separately through researching Big Sur proposals. If there's one thing to know about weather, it's that it can be unpredictable - especially on the coast of Big Sur. One day it can be sunny, and then next it can be completely cloudy. But even in the course of a day, you might run into a day like this. It was abnormally warm for this early spring day, and the sun shone brightly as hikers dressed in shorts and t-shirts came to explore the coast. But just as the sun was about to set, a dramatic fog cloud rolled in. It created the dreamiest atmosphere for J's proposal, as the sun mixed with the fog for a once-in-a-lifetime experience here in Big Sur. His girlfriend had a small inkling that he might be proposing soon, but it didn't take away from all the tears and emotion she felt when the moment actually happened.
