When C + D mentioned wanting to capture their maternity session in the redwood forests of California, I had just the perfect spot for them. They were amazed at how beautiful this hidden gem was, exploring the endless paths as they danced and laughed with each other (with her black Crocs strategically hidden by her dress, a smart move for adventuring in the forest!) When these two contacted me to schedule a maternity and family session, they told me they wanted epic. Not the traditional shots, but something more magical that would capture their family with both grand views and sweet in-between moments. Since they couldn't do their traditional trip to Hawaii to take annual photos, we picked this epic location in San Francisco that was the perfect backdrop for exactly what they wanted. Parenthood often means making the most out of unexpected circumstances, and this session was no different. Google Maps had calculated the drive time incorrectly, so they quickly texted me that they were running late. No worries, luckily we had a lot more leeway since it was a morning redwood session! But when they finally arrived, the spot where I had typically taken clients was turned inaccessible by none other than...the sprinkler system. So we waited but eventually decided to continue to another spot, where we found the perfect spot of light on the boardwalk. A was absolutely glowing as I captured them in the streams of light through the trees, and I was glad to say that it all worked out after all. Check out the rest of their maternity session below!
For two adventurous souls who hiked through Patagonia just a few months prior, there was no doubt in their mind that capturing such a special time in their lives had to be adventurous as well. Having shared some of their favorite memories by the ocean - including getting married on the Sonoma County coast - we knew that the Marin coast was the perfect place to start their maternity session, followed by their favorite trail on Mt. Tamalpais. When the sun set a bit sooner than we expected, they didn't hesitate for a moment to run along the ridge until we caught the last glimpse of the sunset. And it was absolutely worth it! J proposed to M here last year, so it only made sense to capture their engagement session here. When they were met with a beautiful surprise the same time they had originally planned to get married at SF City Hall, they turned their engagement to a maternity session. Congratulations M + J!!
After weeks of rain, the skies finally parted for these two to capture H's maternity session. They celebrated the upcoming birth of their first child amongst the iconic California redwoods in the Bay Area, and then a few months later I got to meet their sweet baby in their beautiful home! Moody days call for moody sessions. Karl the Fog made the perfect appearance for Jessica's maternity session. Originally from the East Bay, they escaped the sunny 90 degree weather for cool Pacific Northwest vibes. Congratulations Jessica and Aaron!
When your work wife is having her first baby, of course you have to celebrate! Carolina and I had worked together as interns, and then as full-time counselors. We shared stories of our boyfriends, and then of our engagements, and finally of our weddings. Though we laughed as she shared the realities of pregnancy and told it to me straight, it was a joy to get to witness these two as they became a family of 3. Congratulations Carolina and Matt - we can't wait to meet your precious baby!
P.S. I seem to be the animal whisperer at maternity sessions - last session we ran across deer, and this session we ran into Pippin the cat! What will it be next time... Linda and Rej met years ago as the wingwoman and wingman for their respective friends - but as luck would have it, they found their match in each other! They were married in their hometown of San Jose and just celebrated the cutest baby shower at the parents' home just nearby Pinchetti Ranch Open Reserve. We took a short walk out and were greeted by a herd of deer - just the perfect setting for her maternity session!
