Is anyone else obsessed with proteas?! This unique flower adds such a beautiful touch to this mixed desert wildflower bouquet, perfect for eloping at Joshua Tree or Zion! Arrange this easy bouquet (with a matching boutonniere!) in under an hour.
Picture
FOR THE BOUQUET:
MATERIALS:
  • Pink Ice Protea
  • Eryngium
  • Wax Flowers
  • Leucadendron
  • Baby Blue Eucalyptus (dried ones from Michael's work too!)
  • Floral Tape
  • Ribbon
  • Floral Snips or Sharp Scissors

INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Trim excess leaves off of the flower stems.
  2. Start the arrangement with the pink ice protea. Then add in the rest of the florals and greenery one stem at a time, so that the colors and textures are balanced out.
  3. While holding the bouquet, look at it with different angles. See which side will be likely the "front" and pull the protea higher than the rest of the flowers.
  4. Once the bouquet looks the way you want it, wrap it with floral tape. Wrap it tightly to make sure the arrangement stays in position. Then wrap the ribbon around the floral tape twice, then tie a double knot.
  5. Trim all the stems to the same length with a diagonal cut.
  6. Keep the bouquet in a vase of water in the refrigerator until use. To keep it fresh, move all fruits away from the bouquet and mix cut flower food with the water.

FOR THE BOUTONNIERE:
MATERIALS:
  • Eryngium
  • Wax Flowers
  • Leucadendron
  • Floral Tape
  • Boutonniere Pin

INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Cut short pieces of the wax flowers, eryngium, and leucadendron, leaving 2-3 inches of the stem.
  2. Layer the eryngium on top of the leucadendron and the wax flowers to the side. Then wrap the pieces together with floral tape to keep them together.
  3. Pin the boutonniere pin through the back and attach to your suit collar.

Happy DIY arranging!

I really like proteas. They are unique and there are lots of DIY you can do with this flowers. But this DIY boutonniere is my first time I heard. Thank you for sharing it, I gotta go to my favourite florist supplies shop to buy the materials.
