When our apartment complex announced a holiday door decorating contest, we immediately raided our craft closet to see what we could make. With leftover rope and artificial flowers recyled from our wedding arch, ribbons from a few floral projects, string lights, and wooden letters from a party, we made this boho macrame Christmas wreath to bring in the holiday spirit!
MATERIALS:
  • Large Floral Hoop ($4 from Michaels)
  • Green Floral Wire
  • Gold Spray Paint
  • Rope
  • Greenery (2 branches)
  • Silk Flowers
  • Ribbon
  • String Lights (Optional, Battery Operated)
  • Wood Block Letters (Optional, $3 from Michaels)
  • Tape (for Letters)
  • Invisible Hanging Wire (To Hang)
  • Command Hook (To Hang)

INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. Spray paint the floral hoop gold. Let dry.
  2. Determine how long you want the rope to hang. Double that length and cut multiple pieces in that length. To create the Larks head knot, fold the rope in half, pull the folded end underneath the hoop, and then pull the ends of the rope through the loop. If that makes no sense, watch this video.
  3. Knot all the rope pieces on the hoop. Once you are done, cut the rope so that the pieces make a V shape. Using the center piece as the longest rope, cut the pieces shorter as you move outward.
  4. Place the greenery on the hoop and determine where you want it to be. Using the floral wire, tie the two branches of greenery together so that they face opposite directions. Then wrap the greenery around the hoop with the floral wire.
  5. Tuck the silk flowers into the greenery and secure with floral wire. Wrap the ribbon around the greenery and tie a knot.
  6. Use floral wire to tie the battery pack of the string lights behind the greenery. Wrap the string lights around the hoop.
  7. Tie the hanging wire to the greenery - not the center of the hoop. Because the weight is not evenly distributed, you'll want to test out how far down the string needs to be in order to get the wreath to hang correctly. Our string is hanging right at the top left side.
  8. Place a command hook upside down on the inside of the door, then hang your wreath over the top of the door.
  9. Optional: Tape a cute Christmas greeting to your door with the wood block letters!

Now wish us luck for our door decorating contest! Merry Christmas everyone and have a wonderful holiday!!
