Capturing memories isn't just reserved for engagement sessions! These two just had their 5 year anniversary, and wanted to celebrate by booking a family session. Of course we had to sneak in photos of the two of them as well! Despite the rain, the kids loved running around and even got to see the chickens at the ranch. Big Sur can be a bit tricky to navigate sometimes, especially as there's no cell service along Highway 1. I worked with K to help him plan his proposal on the coast of Big Sur, and he went the extra step to check out the trail beforehand. Confident that he knew where to go, I very subtly led the way for them to climb up to the hilltop where he popped the question. Though they had talked about getting married, the moment still caught her by surprise - check out the rest of their surprise Big Sur proposal below!
Did you know that Golden Gate Park is the third most visited park in the United States? It's even larger than Central Park in New York City! K + M wanted to celebrate their engagement in the park, so we adventured around Stow Lake and even stumbled upon the seasonal calla lilies. It was perfect timing as they had just walked around the park the week before and hadn't seen the flowers in bloom. We then continued on to the Golden Gate Bridge to watch the sun set and the city lights twinkle on the horizon. Check out the rest of their San Francisco engagement session!
Though sparks didn't fly immediately between A + E when they first met, slowly A managed to melt her heart through the course of a semester over college and they became best of friends. 4 years later, A reached out for help planning his Big Sur proposal. Having never been to the California coast, I showed him some of my favorite hidden gems and we set a plan to secretly find each other at the trailhead. Though smoke and fires had just hit the area a few weeks before, luckily we ended up with a stunning sunset and incredible crazy waves over the rocks. Check out their sweet and emotional Big Sur proposal below!
When T first reached out, we started laughing about how similar our stories were. T + J both grew up in the Bay Area like my husband and I did, started dating just before leaving for college in the same year that we did, and spent our first few years doing long distance. He even went to SJSU and studied business like my husband, coincidentally also where I had studied for graduate school as well. Having run in many of the same social circles, we even realized we shared mutual friends!
For T + B, the mountains have always been where they called home. They spent their weekends training for triathlons and backpacking in Yosemite - T even backpacked the John Muir Trail a month before the wedding! What better way to spend their first day as newlyweds than at Mt. Rainier, where they had their first date snowshoeing there. We spent the day after their wedding adventuring up the trail and had the best time battling in an intense snowball fight, watching marmots sploot and nom on all the wildflowers, and watching the sun set over the mountains. Thunder and lightning struck on this crazy San Francisco summer day - it couldn’t have been more fateful as the day J chose to propose to his girlfriend. Though rain can sometimes spell worry for couples, it made for one of the most romantic proposals I had ever witnessed. It had just started pouring rain, but with a little persuasion, he led her to the spot where they had been to many times to have many long talks. Rain and tears mixed together for the sweetest “I do” followed by their families popping out from their hiding spot to celebrate with them. You don’t always need an epic landscape for special moments like these, sometimes it’s just all about the heart!
Six months later later, we escaped the rain and captured a beautiful engagement session at Montalvo Arts Center! I had been eying this place for a while - this 1912 Mediterranean style villa hidden in the Saratoga hills was the perfect backdrop to get them excited about their fall wedding in Napa. Check out their proposal and engagement sessions below!
Need Napa proposal ideas? You can't go wrong with a 13th century Tuscan castle winery tucked in Napa Valley. When someone accidentally said “Congratulations” too early - before the proposal had even happened - A thought it was a little odd but continued on their tour. After their tour was over, they walked back over to the drawbridge for some quick photos where T surprised her with a proposal. Even the 105 degree heat wave couldn’t stop them from rocking their engagement photos. Check out the rest of T + A's Castello di Amorosa proposal below!
When R told me that he was surprising his girlfriend with a trip to California, I was so excited to show them around some of my favorite hidden gems in Big Sur! He had proposed to her privately the day before with no one else around, and followed that surprise with an engagement session to celebrate. We had perfect weather - far better than the humid weather they were used to - and climbed up all the epicsides for the most epic views. Check out the rest of their engagement session below!
In a year when everything was shut down and the outdoors were the only respite, J + K wanted to do something special for their anniversary. They hadn't taken professional photos in a long time, so they reached out for a couples session. I took them to one of my favorite local spots and hidden gems and we got to watch the most perfect sunset over the hills. Check out the rest of their San Jose couples session!
