K + S worked for the same independent music magazine, but she was on the East Coast while he was on the West Coast. One fateful meeting over a delicious roast chicken dinner that S hosted led to sparks flying between these two. But the timing wasn’t right, so they kept in touch while living on opposite coasts. 5 years later, K found herself back in San Francisco again, and they fell in love on their first real date. She officially made the move to San Francisco right before the wedding, where they got to celebrate with an intimate group of family and friends. It was a day that reflected all the things they loved about each other and the community they built - from spending their day in the city where they fell in love, to riding a VW bus around, to hiring a DJ who S had met from a local bar he loved to frequent, to serving SF based Anchor Steam beer and Tartine cake. When P started planning his proposal, he thought about choosing an iconic spot in San Francisco where they lived. But the more he thought about it, the more he realized he wanted somewhere a bit more special. P and S had started their relationship in long distance, with one of them in San Francisco and the other in Los Angeles. They made many road trips up and down Highway 1 before eventually finding their way to the same city. The ocean was always something they loved - they spent a lot of time at the beach, just enjoying spending time with each other. So when P emailed me asking for help planning a last minute trip to Big Sur so that he could propose to her, I hopped on it right away! We secretly met at the parking turnout, and he carefully brought her down to the spot where he proposed. She was so surprised and overjoyed when he knelt down on one knee, and the sun peeked through the clouds just in time for them! After introducing myself, I took them to the beach where we chased the waves and ended the night snuggled up in the flower beds. Check out the rest of P + S's Big Sur proposal below!
E + M met in college at Stanford, where they spent their weekends exploring the outdoors and hiking in the redwoods. Though they ended up moving to the New York City, they returned to the West Coast to get married in the place where they fell in love! There were so many sweet moments on their wedding day - M gifting each of his groomsmen Star Wars themed socks chosen specifically for them, the two of them tearing up during the first look, M walking his grandparents down the aisle, having their first dance (which was beautifully choreographed by their friend), all the cousins rallying around the ringbearer on the dance floor, and ending the night with a sparkler exit. Did you know that there is a place where the sun never sets? We knew that we wanted to visit Norway in the summer for this very reason - to chase the midnight sun. And it was well worth it! Romantic fishing villages, small towns connected by bridges, and some of the most incredible views you will ever find make it easy to see why the Lofoten Islands are a pilgrimage destination for so many hikers and thrill seekers around the world. When A + S first met, they were working in downtown Chicago. They quickly fell in love from the very first date that ended up lasting well into the night. After a few years, they started a new adventure together and moved to Dallas. When A started thinking about how to propose to the love of his life, he did a quick Google search on most beautiful places to propose and stumbled upon Big Sur! After seeing photos of the incredible coastline, he knew that it was the perfect place to pop the question. Together we plotted to arrange a photoshoot (which wasn't unusual for them) as a surprise gift for their trip to California. She didn't suspect a thing when he suddenly got down on one knee. We ended the day with sunset on the beach - it couldn't have been more romantic. Check out the rest of A + S's proposal below!
Y + B: UC Berkeley Botanical Garden Mather Redwood Grove and Julia Morgan Hall Wedding in Berkeley, CA
There were a few things Y + B knew they wanted on their wedding day: an intimate first look down the aisle in the redwoods, and pretzels and beer to represent one of their favorite trips abroad to Germany. B had come from a family of 8 sisters whereas Y was an only child, so they chose to keep their guest count on the smaller side to balance the two sides. These two's wedding day was so full of laughter and fun - you could just tell how excited B's sisters were to include a new sister in the family and they surprised the couple with a rap song performance just for them. You may have heard of engagement or pre-wedding sessions, but L + E chose to do a post-wedding session instead! These two eloped at San Francisco City Hall with a simple ceremony, and then drove down to Big Sur a week later as newlyweds to capture their wedding photos. It was one of the warmest days in Big Sur, but they trekked up the stairs all the same and made each other laugh all along the way. We ended their session at the beach, capturing the last sunlight over the horizon before making our way home. These photos then became their announcement to their family and friends that these two high school sweethearts had finally got married! Check out the rest of their Big Sur wedding portraits below!
C + H met in school in college, but their love story didn't start until the fateful year of COVID. C had stayed in America, but H had moved back to Singapore. They started chatting, and what began as a few conversations turned into a cross country love story. A few trips later, she finally made the move back to America to be with C. With two weddings planned - one in each country - they decided to capture their pre-wedding photos here in California where they now live. Check out their beautiful redwoods and coast session in Big Sur!
For anyone who has ever come to Pfeiffer Beach, you might notice a sign at the entrance noting how windy it can be, and that there are no refunds once you enter. And when they say windy, they mean it (think sand blowing into your eyes and mouth - not the most pleasant experience!) Out of the countless times I've been here, I've only had 2 days where it hasn't been insanely windy - A + S' elopement coincidentally being one of them. It was the perfect setting for these two who always had a connection to the ocean. We spend the rest of the day driving up Highway 1, where an epic fog drifted over Bixby Bridge and along the coastline. Check out the rest of their Big Sur elopement below!
