If you're dreaming of a fairytale redwoods elopement or wedding, Glen Oaks is one of the best venues for getting married in Big Sur! This property's main draw is its modern redwood cabins, many of which have private patios where you make s'mores by the fire. Its natural beauty is undeniable as well, with trails weaving in and out of the redwood forest, chairs to sit by the river, and even a 150-foot suspension bridge you can cross. Whether you're eloping with just the two of you, having an intimate ceremony with your closest loved ones, or having a traditional wedding, Glen Oaks might just be the perfect venue for you! For a more comprehensive guide, check out the Big Sur Elopement Guide which includes helpful tips and information on getting legally married in California, other elopement locations and venues in Big Sur, budget breakdowns, best time of year to elope, and sample timelines.

Getting Married at Glen Oaks Big Sur

There are three ceremony options if you want to get married at Glen Oaks Big Sur:
  1. Elope anywhere on the property (no guests)
  2. Have a wedding at the Fairy Circle (up to 20 people)
  3. Have a wedding at the Redwood Grove (up to 100 people)

For a reception, you can host a wedding reception at the nearby Big Sur Roadhouse. This restaurant is within walking distance of the cabins and has its own parking lot.

What if you're dreaming of having a coastal ceremony or considering other wedding venues that better fit your needs or budget, but you love the photos taken here? You can also choose to stay at Glen Oaks just to take your wedding portraits here! Even if you aren't having your ceremony here, you can book a cabin or room to take your photos here as part of your Big Sur elopement or wedding day. Just keep in mind check-in and check-out times if you're only staying one night to ensure that your photography timeline fits within those hours.

ELOPEMENT CEREMONY
See photos from from R + M's Glen Oaks Elopement, K + T's Glen Oaks Elopement, and S + T's Glen Oaks Elopement.

There's a reason Glen Oaks is so popular for elopements - it's one of the easiest places to elope in Big Sur! As long as you've booked accommodations here and are eloping with no guests, you can get married anywhere on the property for no additional fees. Staying at one of the Redwood Grove cabins will give you easy access to its redwood trails and ceremony locations. Some of the cabins, such as the Big Sur Cabin and Bunk House, have a separate living room and bedroom, which is perfect if you're getting ready separately and planning on having a first look. If you do book one of the cabins without a separate living room but still want to have a first look, you can use the outdoor patio and bedroom or bedroom and bathroom for getting ready separately. For your ceremony location, there are countless spots to choose from. As a local photographer who's photographed countless elopements here, I typically show my couples around to my favorite spots in the area, and then let them walk around the space to see what feels right. Sometimes that means just following where the sunlight is shining through the trees! But you definitely can't go wrong wherever you choose.

FAIRY CIRCLE CEREMONY
See photos from D + A's Glen Oaks Fairy Circle Intimate Wedding.

The Fairy Circle is a ring of redwoods available for ceremonies of up to 20 people. To get to the Fairy Circle, you do need to cross a 150-foot suspension bridge, so keep this in mind if your guests have accessibility needs. The ceremony site itself is also quite dark due to being surrounded by trees! In order to have a ceremony in the Fairy Circle, you are required to book the Bridge House. This beautiful 2-bedroom, 3 1/2 bathroom house includes a kitchen and living room for getting ready and can sleep up to 4 people. It can also be booked with 2 additional sleeping quarters, which are tiny glamping cabins with shared bathrooms outside. Prices do range depending on the season, with low season prices from December through March and high season prices from April through November.

REDWOOD GROVE CEREMONY
See photos from A + D's Glen Oaks Redwood Grove Wedding.

The Redwood Grove is a lawn surrounded by trees available for ceremonies of up to 100 people. Easily accessible from the Redwood Grove Cabins or a nearby parking lot, it's best for larger groups with accessibility needs. Since accommodations, ceremony, and reception can all be booked at Glen Oaks, this might be a great option if you're wanting everything to be in one place! Prices do range depending on the season, with low season prices from December through March and high season prices from April through November.

BIG SUR ROADHOUSE RECEPTION

Imagine hosting an intimate dinner under the string lights, having a first dance on the patio, and dancing with your closest loved ones. If you're wanting to host a wedding reception at Glen Oaks, the Big Sur Roadhouse can be rented in addition or separately from the ceremony site. The back patio can seat up to 50 people (40 if you want to have room for a small dance floor), and the full restaurant can seat up to 100 people. The Big Sur Roadhouse does not offer catering, so you do need to hire a full service caterer for your event.

Glen Oaks is separated into two sections: Adobe Motor Lodge and Oak Tree Cabins on the east side of Highway 1, and Redwood Grove Cabins and Bridge House on the west side of Highway 1. The elopement locations, Fairy Circle, Redwood Grove Ceremony, and Big Sur Roadhouse are also on the west side of Highway 1. The Adobe Motor Lodge is great for those on a budget, but I highly recommend booking one of the Redwood Grove Cabins for ease of access to ceremony and portrait locations! Each of the cabins are different, so be sure to check out the photos and description - some have kitchenettes, some have private patios, some even have outdoor soaking tubs.

Room blocks are available as well if you would like all your guests to stay onsite. There are various different options available depending on your group size. One important thing to keep in mind is that in order to have a room block, you are required to book your reception at the Big Sur Roadhouse. Groups are not allowed to book cabins individually outside of a room block, so be sure to contact Glen Oaks in advance!
